NEED
I have been trying to understand why there are not that many audiobooks in Spanish. If you go to www.audible.com you will find very poor collection of Spanish audiobooks. Even most of the bestsellers are not produced in Spanish.
DESCRIPTION
Create an www.audible.com for Latin America (in Spanish and Portuguese). Keep in mind that this probably means having a recording studio to create quality Spanish audiobooks of the bestsellers.
POTENTIAL
"Audiobooks are the fastest growing segment in publishing and everyone within the industry is very bullish about the future of the format. There are a number of new start-ups that are making waves and retailers are beginning to release that audiobooks are worth investing in. The global audiobook industry is currently evaluated at 2.8 billion dollars and this is primarily due to the sheer amount of new titles that were produced in 2015. 43,000 new audiobooks were released this year, which is a slight increase from the 36,000 that came out in 2014 and a far cry from the 20,000 that were issued in 2013." by Michael Kozlowski

Kickstarter for concerts
NEED
Not all cities have the luck of having a great concert promoter or organizers that bring the right artist to your location. You hope that the promoter or organizer is good at his/her job but you actually never know. Even the best promoters and organizers have "bad" events where they don´t make any money or even lose money.
DESCRIPTION
A crowdfunding/sourcing platform that puts together promoter/organizers, fans and artists. The same way kickstarters works but for concerts or other events.
POTENTIAL
Live Nation Entertainment generated US$4.73 billion in 2014.

New incubation model
NEED
I have been thinking about the incubation and acceleration model and I think there could be a way to improve the process. Imagine if you could crowdsource different parts of the startup creation process. For example you have a crowdsource platform that measures what are the different needs of the participants. Then you have other users that provide ideas on how to solve those needs. Then you have a founder bank that get assign to ideas that they feel passionate about.

Crowdsourcing Games
NEED
Currently we have kickstarter and other to crowdfund games but what about crowdsource games?Probably there is no a specific need for this idea. It would just be cool.
DESCRIPTION
A platform that would incentive collaboration for specific tasks in the creation of a game. This is probably similar to the music collaboration idea where you have to have a mastermind that can create a vision to guide the development of the entire process. I see how we have had opensource software in different areas, so this is not so crazy. The business model probably will have to be charitable contribution.
POTENTIAL
[Updated] Total revenues for the gaming industry in the U.S. hit $23.5 billion in 2015.

Facebook for Game Characters
NEED
If you are a gamer you know how you would love to have a social network for your characters. A place where characters from different games could interact.
DESCRIPTION
Create a platform where gamers can meet having metrics that they can match from real life. If you saw Wreck-It Ralph, you may remember that there was a place where characters from different games could interact. The idea would be similar.
POTENTIAL
Probably difficult to achieve because of intellectual property but hey! I can dream too.

Movie Addicts App
NEED
I love movies. I always think that the renting of movies should be much cheaper. But how?
DESCRIPTION
Imagine if we could create some type of volume discount for movies being rented through an app that can organize the different fans/users. Something similar to the Groupon system. Each rental will be set to specific times (similar to a cinema process). For example, it is Thursday night, you access the app and there are 5 movies showing that day at 9pm. If, for example, 10 buyers purchase that same movie rental then each pays $1 dollar.
POTENTIAL
[Updated] "The global film industry shows healthy projections for the coming years, as the global box office revenue is forecast to increase from about 38 billion U.S. dollars in 2016 to nearly 50 billion U.S. dollar in 2020. The U.S. is the third largest film market in the world in terms of tickets sold per year, only behind China and India. More than 1.2 billion movie tickets were sold in the U.S. in 2015. There are about 5,800 cinema sites in the U.S. as of 2015. About 14 percent of Americans go to the movies about once a month, seven percent go see movies in the movie theater twice or three times a month, whereas 37 percent go a few times a year. This is a considerable share taking into account 53 percent of American adults prefer watching movies at home" by Statista

Helping Restaurant´s Inventory Through Crowdsourcing
NEED
Most restaurant owners suffer from managing inventory. This is how "day´s special" was invented. Nevertheless imagine if there was a better way of solving the issue of inventory in restaurants.
DESCRIPTION
Platform that connects restaurants with users. Allowing users to get discounts on plates that help restaurant managers with their inventory. It sounds very similar to Groupon, I know, but it is very different for the restaurant. It is not attracting user to the restaurant, it is attracting users to a specific meal.
POTENTIAL
Global restaurant industry sales more than $2B in 2014 [Updated]

Parenting Platform
NEED:
I have been thinking lately that I would love to read books on parenting from the perspective of the parent and the son/daughter. Obviously this will require for the son/daughter to be of certain age to be able to bring a clear perspective. I am starting to think that even though each child is different there should be a book that could serve as a guide to how to motivate our children depending on personalities. I know that no child is equal and everybody have different personality. Nevertheless I feel that someone could try to summarize them in 2, 5, 10 personalities and write a book about how to motivate kids with similar personalities.
DESCRIPTION
This is probably a crowdsource platform. A platform that can guide parents in this difficult path of parenting. The platform basically uses the information from thousands of learning lessons from parent-child pairs.
POTENTIAL
Difficult to assess but how many parents are they in the world?

Sharing Music Live
NEED
The idea of listening music at the same time through a smartphone without being in the same place. Like doing FaceTime but instead with music.
DESCRIPTION
It will probably be an app on your phone that can synchronize what everyone is listening in a specific channel. It is like becoming your own radio station.
POTENTIAL
"Spotify launched just over a year ago in the United States (July 14, 2011) and during that time has garnered more than three million U.S. users, with roughly 20% of them paying subscribers." by Hisham Dahud

Music Launchpad
NEED
In general most songs are not communicating the right message. We are wasting a mass communication channel. Imagine if we could have a platform that could help artist co-create songs with its users or fans. Similar to the ideas behind crowd sourcing but with the artist being the mastermind behind the creation.
DESCRIPTION
It will need to be a platform similar to a kickstarter but for artistic creation where the users will have to release all rights to the artist that is managing the process. I imagine having different groups of users trying to push certain messages through music.
POTENTIAL
In 2012 the global music market represented US$16B in retail sales.

Men Shirts in Volume
NEED
Everyone has a guy friend that loves to purchase two or three shirts of the exact same type and color. Others will like so much certain shoes that will buy two pairs and store one until the first pair gets ruined.
DESCRIPTION
A clothing company that targets men that purchase in bulk. So if a customer purchases one shirt it costs exactly as in other places but if he purchases more than one it gets volume discounts. Shirts that count for the volume discount have to be of the same type maybe even of the same color. As I think about this it may not even need to be a clothing company but an aggregator that purchases in bulk to different brands.
POTENTIAL
Menswear Will Contribute US$40 Billion Sales in the Global Apparel Market by 2019 [Updated]

TV Streaming Device
[UPDATE: Chromecast was release days after this post. Probably this is exactly what I meant with my post]
NEED
I keep wondering when are we getting a small device that can help me project things from my phone to the TV. It could get connected to some input plug in my TV. Probably the HDMI or even the VGA. I would love to be able to stream videos or even movies from my laptop too. I know I have AppleTV and other but I want something more simple that I can take on my trips.
DESCRIPTION
Small device that hopefully does not need any electrical connection (i.e. it has a small battery included like the remote control of the AppleTV) and that serves as a bridge between computers/laptops/phones and TVs.
POTENTIAL
Apple TV sales surpass 13 million, 'about half' sold this year

Sports Video Content Aggregator
NEED
I have always had some difficult time finding quality videos of the highlights of the key soccer matches around the world. The best solution is to search on youtube. I am sure there are several hundred thousand (or even million) fans that would love to have a site that aggregates quality sports video clips.
DESCRIPTION
Probably something like VIMEO but for sports. It should be multi-platform with key features like easy to search. Revenue would come from advertising and a freemium model. Probably start with one sport in specific that is relatively global: Soccer (aka Football).
POTENTIAL
2014 FIFA World Cup™ reached 3.2 billion viewers, one billion watched final. [Updated]

ZipCar Systems to Open Your Home
Need
Ok, if you have not seen my previous post, please check it out before reading this one because this idea is just a "sub-idea" to my previous post: http://www.marceloburbano.com/2013/08/zipcar-system-for-individuals.html
The need is similar to my previous post. I am tired of looking for my keys to open my home. Can we put the opening system in my wallet or anything that I am wearing (e.g. my watch)? Given that I only really know about the ZipCar system to open car doors I am going to follow my instinct that the first global/massive way to open home doors would look like a cardkey.
Description
Bla, bla, bla... you know how it is going to look like if you read my previous post. The only piece that is different is the third party installer. In this case I am thinking of two types: the security companies that install the alarms in every developing country (and some developed countries now that inequality is rising) or the companies that offer security doors (those doors that are not your regular "Joe Door" but made of steal and very very difficult to open if you do not have the key).
Potential
Again... bla, bla, bla... if this worked for cars... hmm let me think, is there more homes that cars?... yeap! ok so you see my point on "potential".
